This is part of the Sidb Tutorial. Previous: Sidb Upload To The Archive
This section has been written to get more familiar with the search action of the Webdriven 3D Image Database. To find an image efficiently you can give an input to obtain a table with images. Besides the images the table also contains information about the imagename, the name of the owner, the date of upload. The table has one special column named delete. Here you can delete an image if the function is specified in the row of the image. To get more attached to this search procedure you can practice some exercises.
After you have clicked on the Search button you'll see different options to search on. These options are respectively:
It is not compulsory to fill in all fields. You can even click on the Search Database button without giving any input. If the database is quite large this can be a disadvantage, because a large table will be created and this takes time.
If you only want to search on the imagename, you can type the name in the concerning textfield. It is not required to type the complete imagename. A part of the name suffices to find eventual results. But the more complete imagename the more complete table will be created.
Besides searching on the imagename, it is also possible to search only on the username and the description of an image. Type the whole or a part of the name/description and click on the Search Database button. The last option is the date of upload. You see four fields. The first field is a dropdown box. Here you can select the keywords on, after, before and then you can fill in the date. Examples: 08 04 2000 or 4 11 1999. The standard number of results per page is ten. You can change this number to fill in an integer larger than zero. It might happen that no result(s) match(es) with your input. Then a proper message will appear, namely "No results available". You are then able to do a new search.
The search procedure allows you to download an image. In the table of results you have to click on the thumbnail of the image. A new screen will appear with the enlarged image and his characteristics. To download you have to click on the download link. Please notice if you want to download an ics file you will see two links. Both links must be clicked.
Except downloading an image, deleting an image is also possible. You can click on the delete link to delete the image. You can find this link in the delete column of the table. If you are not allowed to delete an image, you will not see a delete link.
If you know the complete name of the image it is easy to search in the database. You just fill in the imagename in the concerning field. You would like to search the file named "faba64".
After clicking on Search Database you will see the result(s) that match(es)with the imagename you have typed. The standard number of results per page that will be shown is ten. It's possible to change this number. If there are results of your search action you'll see the results arranged in a clear table.
The table contains a lot of information. Each column contains specific information of the image.
Sometimes it happens that you don't know exactly what the filename is. For example:
There exists an image named "demospheres". But you only remember the first two letters.
You'll get all the files with "de" in the name. It doesn't matter if "de" occurs in the front, in the middle or at the end of the name. Everything with "de" will be shown in the table.
It can happen that there are more results than shown. With the Next and Previous button you can see the other results.
The same procedure described above holds also for searching on the name of a user.
The images you'll see in the table are owned by Rob Vermaas. In the column Real Name of the table appears his name.
It is also possible to type the first name of Rob Vermaas, if you can't remember his whole name.
The table that will appear contains all the images of users whose name is Rob.
Another option to search on is the date of upload of the image. For example:
You would like to search an image, which has been uploaded on the 28th May 1999.
Now you'll get all the files that have been uploaded on the 28th May 1999. This date also appears in the date column of the table.
Besides you can choose a specific date with on, you are also able to get all the files before or after a date. The only thing you have to do is select the keyword before or after.
Every image could have a description. You don't see the description in the table. To read the description you have to click on the thumbnail. For example:
A table will be shown with images that have your description (partly).
With the last option in the searchpage you can determine how many results, you want to see in the table. As mentioned earlier the standard number of results per page that will appear in the table is ten.
For example:
The contents of the whole database is shown in the table and you see exactly 15 results. With the Next button you can see the next 15 results.
If you would like to download an image you have to click on the thumbnail of the image in the table. A new screen will be shown with the enlarged image and you see its characteristics. You must click on the download link to download the image. For example:
You would like to download the image "faba64". You have found this image by doing exercise 1.
This image must be downloaded twice because it is an ics-ids image. Images with another extensions have to be downloaded once. But then you will see only one download link.
To delete an image you have to click on the delete link of the image in the table. After you have clicked on the link the image will be removed and you'll get the message "Image has been removed form database" as a confirmation. For example: You would like to delete the image "faba64". You have found this image by doing exercise 1.
Now your image has been deleted.
It is not necessary to fill in one or more fields. You can click on the button Search Database immediately. The result is the whole contents of the database that is shown in a table of ten rows.
An example of a more complete search is the following:
If there exist some images that match with your input, the results will be arranged in a table with a maximum of four rows.
If the system can't find any results with your input you'll get the message "No results available".
